Safety concerns when travelling with children

It is becoming much more common to take children abroad, including to distant destinations. However children do run additional health risks because of their young age and because their immune systems are not yet fully developed.

Diarrhoea and dehydration in children

Young children are particularly susceptible to diarrhoea. This is because their immune system is still developing and because they often put their fingers and other objects in their mouths whilst playing.

Malaria and Children

Each year three million children worldwide die from malaria, most of them in Africa. Malaria is the most serious and life-threatening disease that children can get when travelling.

Travelling with children

Children can easily come into contact with pathogens. It is impossible to protect them fully but you can minimise the risks.
